Kristina Karitinos-Ireland - Personal Biography
Kristina Karitinos-Ireland was born in Athens, Greece in 1971. Following her studies in theatre and dance, she started practicing Ashtanga vinyasa yoga at the age of nineteen with her first teacher, Linda Kapetaniou. For the period 1993-1998, she perfected her teaching method under the guidance of her late husband, senior teacher Derek Ireland. She assisted him at the Practice Place in Crete as well as in his teacher trainings in Goa, India. In 1998, Kristina established Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in Brighton and taught in the south coast of the UK. In 2001, she and Michalis Anastassiades co-founded Yoga Practice London. In 2003, she returned to Athens and started Ashtanga Yoga Athens, and then together with her husband George Cassimatis ran Triopetra Yoga Retreat for six years in the south of Crete. Kristina and George recently moved to the north of the island to Rethymno, where they now live with their three wonderful children. Kristina teaches on a daily basis and leads retreats and intensive workshops year round in her new shala, Ashtanga Yoga Greece. She has been a direct student of the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath Rangaswamy since 1995 and was qualified to teach by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the director of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India, in 2002. Kristina now studies with his son, Manju Pattabhi Jois. She teaches primary, intermediate and third series. More about Kristina: About personal biography pages
